Modifications to Sewer Patrol Point 341A: Genesee Street

 

Why is Buffalo Sewer doing this project?

Buffalo Sewer is working to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) impacting surface waters. This project will make changes to existing underground structures to help reduce overflows to Scajaquada Creek.

What is included in this project?

 

Genesee Street between Kerns and Countess:

  • Installation of a new sewer structure and manholes in the road and sidewalk
  • Trenchless installation of a new sewer pipe under Genesee Street into Schiller Park
  • All road pavement and sidewalks disturbed by construction will be restored

Schiller Park:

  • Installation of a new drop shaft, manholes, sewer pipes and an air vent chamber
  • New grass and plantings
  • Existing trees will be protected

 

When will construction begin?

 

  • – Construction is scheduled to start in Spring 2026 and finish by the end of 2027.

 

  • – Notices will be hand-delivered to residents at least one week before construction starts.

 

Project Location

What can I expect during construction?

Temporary noise and dust will be minimized as much as possible. Sewer odors will NOT be present in homes, but may be present outside.

 

Residents and visitors will see:

  • – Partial or full road closures
  • – Sidewalk closures
  • – Limited street parking
  • – Possible detours

 

Will my service be affected?

Residents may experience temporary sewer service interruption for a few hours at most. Residents will be notified of construction in advance and details will be provided at that time.

How is this work being funded?

Buffalo Sewer will pay for this project with low interest loans, and will seek New York State grant funds to supplement the project funding.
