Why is Buffalo Sewer doing this project?

Buffalo Sewer is working to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) impacting surface waters. This project will make small changes to existing underground structures to help reduce overflows to Scajaquada Creek. Electrical upgrades for sewer monitoring equipment will be made as well.

What is included in this project?

Weir Modifications or Repairs:

All work is being done in existing manholes and residents will see traffic cones and signs while work is being completed.

  • -Michigan & Dodge
  • -Michigan & Riley
  • -Michigan & Glenwood
  • -Smith and Clifford

Electrical Upgrades:

New electrical conduit and control boxes will be installed.

  • -Hagen near Kerns
  • -Babcock near Elm
  • -Perry Blvd. near Pearl

When will construction begin?

  • -Construction is scheduled to start in Spring 2026 and finish by the end of 2026.
  • -Notices will be hand-delivered to residents at least one week before  construction starts.

What can I expect during construction?

  • Temporary noise and dust will be minimized as much as possible. Sewer odors will NOT be present in homes, but may be present outside.Residents and visitors will see:
    • -Partial or full road closures
    • -Sidewalk closures
    • -Limited street parking
    • -Possible detours

Will my service be affected?

Residents may experience temporary sewer service interruption for a few hours at most. Residents will be notified of construction in advance and details will be provided at that time.

How is this work being funded?

Buffalo Sewer will pay for this project with low interest loans, and will seek New York State grant funds to supplement the project funding.
