FRUIT BELT NEIGHBORHOOD SEWER IMPROVEMENTS
Why is Buffalo Sewer doing this project?
Buffalo Sewer is working diligently to improve the City’s existing sewer infrastructure in a cost-effective manner. Large portions of the Fruit Belt’s sewers are over 100 years old, as are many of the private lateral connections between houses and the sewer line. Failing or abandoned laterals are suspected to be the cause of past issues such as sink holes and ground settlement in the roadway and other areas. This project will renew the Fruit Belt infrastructure and combat these historic issues for years to come.
What is included in this project?
- Pipe cleaning and video inspections
- Existing sewer spot repairs
- Replacement of house / building laterals
- New sewer lining (UV CIPP)
Buffalo Sewer will pay for this project with municipal bonds, and will seek New York State grant funds to supplement the project funding.
What is UV CIPP Lining?
What are the benefits of UV CIPP Lining?
- Compared to alternative CIPP processes that use hot water or steam and chemicals to harden the liner, UV installation is faster, safer, minimizes disturbances, and reduces chemical emissions while increasing pipe durability.
When will construction begin?
- Construction is scheduled to start in Fall 2025 and finish by Summer 2026.
- Notices will be hand-delivered to residents at least one week before construction starts.
Project Work Area
What can I expect during construction?
Work will be completed so that temporary disruptions in the neighborhood, such as noise and dust, will be minimized as much as possible. Sewage odors will NOT be present in homes, but may be present outside.
During construction, residents can expect to see equipment in the road and new traffic patterns in place, as listed and shown below:
- Partial road closures
- Sidewalk closures
- Limited street parking
- Possible detours
Will my service be affected?
Residents may experience temporary sewer service interruption / limited use. Residents will be notified of construction in advance and details will be provided at that time.
How is this project being funded?
Buffalo Sewer will pay for this project with municipal bonds, and will seek New York State grant funds to supplement the project funding.
